ECA network meeting in Tbilisi, Georgia, 11-13 April 2006

The Fifth Meeting of the Regional Ozone Network for Europe and Central Asia (ECA network) was held from 11 to 13 April 2006 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The meeting was followed by a 1-day workshop on ODS disposal & destruction on 14 April 2006.

Both activities were funded by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and organised by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia and the UNEP DTIE OzonAction Programme.

The main objective of the ECA network meeting was:

- Inform on ExCom decisions, MOP decisions and CAP evaluation
- Inform on implementation of ECA network recommendations and activities
- Discuss halon activities and future needs
- Discuss methyl bromide activities and future needs
- Inform on non-compliance procedure and status of ratification & compliance
- Discuss options to achieve sustained compliance i.e. in the context of TPMP
- Discuss option to enforce ODS legislation and licensing systems
- Agree on the ECA work plan 2006-2007

Beside the representatives of the ECA network countries (Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Turkmenistan), the Ozone Officers from the GEF-funded CEIT countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), representatives of the Multilateral Fund Secretariat, Ozone Secretariat, implementing agencies (UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, World Bank) and bilateral agencies (Hungary, Sweden) participated. The back-to-back workshop on ODS disposal and destruction was supported by additional resource persons.
