Thematic meeting on RMP - NPP implementation, Belgrade, Serbia, 19 - 21 September 2006

The thematic meeting on RMP - NPP implementation took place in Belgrade, Serbia, from the 19th to the 21st of September 2006. It was organized by the Ministry of Science qnd Environment Protection and the United Nations Environment Programme.As part of the work programme 2006 of the Regional Ozone Network in Europe & Central Asia (ECA network) it was funded by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol with UNEP as implementing agency.

The meeting was structured in round-table discussions with short introductory presentations which left sufficient time for discussion and exchange of opinions. The outcomes of each session served as a basis for the final recommendations of the meeting. The working language was English without interpretation.

In the margins of the meeting, separate sessions were scheduled with Serbia on the implementation of their National Phase-out Plan, and with Montenegro on their situation after the declaration of independence.

OBJECTIVES

The meeting’s overall objective was to discuss the short and long term needs and challenges in RMP - NPP implementation with the following specific objectives:

- Sharing of experiences and lessons learned from RMP - NPP implementation
- Sharing of experiences on the importance of stakeholder involvement
- Sharing of experiences on improved data reporting
- Sharing of experiences on enforcement of ODS legislation and licensing systems
- Discussion of conclusions and meeting recommendations

PARTICIPANTS AND RESOURCE PERSONS

The target group of the meeting included the National Ozone Officers or their designated representatives from Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. Representatives of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), UNIDO and UNEP participated as resource persons.

FOLLOW-UP

Any follow up actions arising from the meeting recommendations will be facilitated by UNIDO as the main Implementing Agency in the region and by UNEP through the various activities of the Regional Ozone Network in Europe & Central Asia.
